Turning Red in this movie symbolizes turning red in anger or in excitement. The movie is all about Meilin “Mei” Lee and her mother named Ming. They share a pure bond of love and their life was going well until puberty hits Mei.
In the movie, Ming is seen being quite overprotective towards her daughter as she never had a good relationship with her own mother. Ming also experienced the same thing in her past that Mei is experiencing right now. When Ming turned into a giant Red Panda, this incident made her bond with her mother worse. Now, she does not want her daughter to experience this.
In order to keep her daughter close, Ming has developed a habit of blaming others for everything Mei did. However, this does not seem to be working every time. Mei started to feel the exact same thing her mother has experienced in her past. She turns into a big red panda whenever she is angry.
However, Mei never runs out of the situation and always tries to find out ways to improve the situation. Mei confronted her mother and told her everything she is feeling and going through and also made her mother realize that relationship changes with time. It is not a bad thing and we don’t need to worry about it.
