Lingui, The Sacred Bonds is an internationally co-produced drama film written and directed by Mahamat Saleh Haroun. In June 2021, the film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It was selected as the Chadian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the  94th Academy Awards. Production companies of this film are Pili Films, Goï Goï Productions, Made In Germany Film production and MUBI.

What does “Lingui, The Sacred Bonds  is it about?

This film is about a determined mother, Amina who lives on the outskirts of the capital of Chad. She works tirelessly to provide for herself and her 15-year old daughter Maria. When Amina discovers her daughter, Maria is pregnant and she does not want a child the two women begin to seek out an abortion, condemned by both religion and law.
