The Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard sidebar has given its prizes tonight. The top honors were given to Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret’s The Worst Ones (Les Pires). The Jury Prize was given to Saim Sadig for Joyland. It is the first Pakistani movie in history in official selection at Cannes.

Talking about “The Worst Ones”, it is a drama about a film within a film. It revolves around a working-class French town. On the other hand, Joyland revolves around a married man who falls in love with a transgender woman. Vicky Krieps took the Best Actor award for her performance in Marie Kreutzer’s Corsage.

The Cannes Film Best Director Award was given to Alexandru Belc for Metronom and the “Coup de Coeur”. This time the election included 20 feature films and out of these 20, seven are the first features that are also in competition for the Caméra d’Or which goes to a first-time filmmaker.
