Viktor Orban and Hungary ElectionParliamentary elections were held in Hungary on 3 April 2022 to elect the National Assembly coinciding with a referendum.

Viktor Orbán wins the fourth consecutive term as Hungary’s prime minister. Six opposition parties had rallied their efforts to unseat Orbán behind Péter Márki-Zay.

On polling day their support hesitate and they proved no match for Fidesz which has secured another two-thirds majority in parliament.

Hungarian PM Viktor Orban declared victory on Sunday after early results in the country’s national election showed a strong lead for his rightwing Fidesz party.

According to the National Election Office, around 91% of votes were tallied, Orban’s Fidesz-led alliance had won 53%, while a pro-European opposition union, United for Hungary, had just over 34%

Fidesz took 135 seats in Hungary’s 199 seat parliament, while the opposition was set to take 57 seats. The opposition alliance, United For Hungary, later admitted defeat.

The opposition’s prime minister candidate, Peter Marki-Zay, said that the voting conditions had been piled against them and advised the supporters to keep up hope. {Source-Google}
