Origin of Daylight Savings Time: Daylight Saving Time was first adopted in Germany on May 1, 1916. This was introduced at the time of World War I in order to conserve fuel. Soon after its introduction, it became famous and many countries in Europe started adopting it. 

The USA adopted it on March 19, 1918. This concept gained very popularity during World War I but become abolished after that war.

Daylight saving time became standard in the US after the introduction of the Uniform Time Act 1966. It was announced that clocks in the entire country would advance one hour on the last Sunday in April at 2 midnight and also return back 1 hour on the last Sunday in October at 2 midnight.

However, this time the name was changed from Daylight Saving Time to “War Time”. But this time also, this concept only lasted for a few months. In 1966, the Uniform Time Act came into effect.
