The Painter and the Thief

The Painter and the Thief is a 2020 Norwegian documentary film which is directed by Benjamin Ree. The film follows Barbora Kysilkova who is an artist who forms a friendship with Karl-Bertil Nordland, a man who stole her artwork. 

This documentary has a true-crime twist that unveils the bizarre heist that began an unusual friendship. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2020, and won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Creative Storytelling.

Neon obtained distribution rights to the film. It was released in the United States on May 22, 2020.

Three Identical Strangers

Three Identical Strangers is a 2018 documentary film that is directed by Tim Wardle. This documentary is about the lives of Edward Galland, David Kellman, and Robert Shafran and is about a set of identical triplet brothers who are adopted as infants by separate families.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2018  where it won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Storytelling. This film was also on the shortlist of 15 films considered for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Three Identical Strangers film was also presented at the Rome Film Fest.

The Mole Agent is a 2020 internationally co-produced documentary film directed by Maite Alberdi. This documentary was screened at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Documentary Competition.

This documentary is about a private investigator who hires an elderly man to go undercover in a nursing home in Chile.

It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards and was also selected as the Chilean entry for Best International Feature Film.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a 2011 Japanese-language American documentary film which is directed by David Gelb. This film follows Jiro Ono who is an 85-year-old sushi master and owner of Sukiyabashi Jiro which is a Michelin three-star restaurant. 

Sukiyabashi Jiro is a 10-seat sushi-only restaurant which is located in a Tokyo subway station. Jiro Ono serves a tasting menu of 20 courses for a minimum of JP¥30,000 in 2014.

The film also profiles Jiro’s two sons,  a younger son, Takashi who left Sukiyabashi Jiro to open a mirror image of his father’s restaurant in Roppongi Hills, and a 50-year-old elder son, Yoshikazu, required to succeed his father, still works for Jiro and faced with the hope of 1 day taking over the flagship restaurant.

Hail Satan? is a 2019 American documentary film. This film is about The Satanic Temple which has its origins and grassroots political activism.

This documentary is directed by Penny Lane and premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. This documentary was released in the United States on April 19, 2019, and distributed by Magnolia Pictures. 

The film shows Satanists working to preserve the separation of church and state against the perceived privileges of the Christian right.

‘McQueen’

McQueen is a 2018 biographical documentary film which is directed by Ian Bonhôte, written and co-directed by Peter Ettedgui, and produced by Ian Bonhôte, Andee Ryder, Nick Taussig, and Paul Van Carter under the banner of Misfits Entertainment, and Salon Pictures. This documentary is based on the life and career of British fashion designer Alexander McQueen.
