DeAndre Cortez Way (professionally known as Soulja Boy) is an American rapper and record producer born on July 28, 1990, in Chicago.
Soulja moved to Atlanta when he was six years old. While staying in Atlanta, his interest in rap music developed. When he was 14 years old, he moved to Batesville, Mississippi.
He made his debut with the release of his single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" The song peaked at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in the month of September 2007.
The single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" was initially self-released and after some time it become a number-one hit in the United States for seven non-consecutive weeks.
Seeing his son's interest in music, his father gifted him a recording studio so that he can explore his ambition. He released his first song on the SoundClick in November 2005.
Soulja was robbed and battered in his home on December 30, 2008. According to some reports, the robbers were six masked men with AK-47s and pistols.
