Sandberg is stepping down as the chief operating officer of Facebook

Sheryl Kara Sandberg is an American business executive, billionaire, and philanthropist and is also COO of Facebook.

Sandberg serves as a chief operating officer (COO) of Meta Platforms, a position from which she announced, on June 1, 2022, that she is stepping down in the fall. 

In 2008, she was made chief operating officer (COO) at Facebook, becoming the company's second-highest ranking official.

In June 2012, she was elected to Facebook's board of directors, becoming the first woman to serve on its board.

Before that, Sandberg served as chief of staff for United States Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers.

As head of the company's advertising business, Sandberg was credited with making the company profitable.

In a post on Facebook, Sandberg did not disclose the reason for her departure from the company and the Facebook

Sandberg said she planned to focus on her philanthropic work going forward. She has worked for the company for 14 years.

Sandberg will continue to serve on the company's board of directors, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a separate Facebook post
