Rumeysa Gelgi holds the title of the tallest living woman in the world from Guinness World Records since October 2021 is a Turkish advocate, researcher, and front-end developer.
Previously, she held the title of the tallest living female teenager in the world. Her height is 7 feet 0.7 inches (215.1 cm) tall. She lives in the Karabük province of Turkey.
Rumeysa Gelgi was born with an extremely rare genetic mutation called Weaver syndrome and this is the main cause of her abnormal height. This syndrome causes rapid growth in the body.
In most cases, the syndrome often restricts the movement of the joints and makes the bones weak. She went two significant surgeries before the age of five.
Rumeysa was finally able to walk for the first time with the help of a walker, all thanks to these surgeries. She was awarded the title of “the world’s tallest living female teenager” in 2014.
When she was 17 in 2014, her height was around 7 feet 0.09 inches. In the year 2021, she grew 7 feet 0.7 inches tall claiming the title of “the tallest woman living”.
Most of the time, she uses a wheelchair to move due to her tall stature and medical condition. However, Rumeysa always tries to look on the bright side and every day best.
“Every disadvantage can be turned into an advantage for yourself, so accept yourself for who you are, be aware of your potential and do your best,” she said in an interview with Guinness.
Apart from holding two two world titles for her height, she bagged three more this year including the longest finger of a living female (4.40 inches) and the longest back for a female (23.58 inches).
