HBO spend over $200M on the launch of House of the Dragon

HBO House of the Dragon sequel of Games of Thrones cost under $20 million per episode to produce by HBO. 

The marketing campaign by HBO is valued at over $100 million spends which is the biggest campaign ever for HBO.

David Zaslav said that the HBO House of the Dragon series campaign has reached nearly 130 million people in the US alone. 

It stars Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. 

Two teaser trailers launched on 5 October 2021 by HBO OF HOTD with a massive 17.1 million YouTube views and on May 5, 2022, with 14 million YouTube views. 

Zaslav cleared that it’s not a Netflix-type push to subscribers on its menu but it is the theatrical tentpole-sized marketing budget.

Zaslav said that he feels excited to see teams work collaboratively in the cross-promotional campaigns. 

Barlow said the campaign targeted the existing fans of Game of Thrones as well as the new fans as HOTD is the sequel of GOT.

Zaslav on future plans said marquee Warner Bros theatrical titles hitting the service 45 days after they’re in cinemas.
