After the release of House of the Dragon, Tamzin spoke out about Emilia taking over the role and what she felt about losing the role.
Daenerys Targaryen was originally played by the actress Tamzin Merchant but when the show was picked up by HBO then she was replaced by Emilia.
Daenerys Targaryen is one of the most iconic characters in television history and the famous series Game of Thrones.
Tamzin said in an interview, “Shooting that pilot was a really great lesson. It was an affirmation about listening to my instincts and following them"
“It was a lesson that if my guts are telling me a story isn’t something I’m excited to tell,” she said.
I think it’s a testament to Emilia Clarke for making that role iconic, she was obviously excited to tell that story, and she was epic and excellent,” she continued.
“It was kind of funny riding to auditions on buses with Emilia Clarke‘s face on it,” she said. “Like, ‘oh my mode of transport is quite interesting today!"
HBO executive Michael Lombardo talked about the replacement, "We all knew Daenerys’ journey was critical. Her scenes with Jason just didn’t work.”
The first episode of House of the Dragon was debuted on HBO and HBO Max on August 21, 2022.
