William Henry Cosby Jr. (professionally known as Bill Cosby) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author born on July 12, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He started his career during the 1960s as a stand-up comic at the hungry nightclub in San Francisco. During that time, Bill launched numerous standup comedy records.

He received Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album from 1965 to 1970. He also appeared in the television crime show I Spy (1965–1968) opposite Robert Culp.

Bill gained mainstream recognition when he received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in 1966. He is the first African American who won an Emmy Award for acting.

Apart from being a well-known figure in the world of comedy. Bill also pursued acting and appeared in the sitcom The Bill Cosby Show for two seasons from 1969 to 1971.

In 1972, Bill created produced and hosted the animated comedy television series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids by using his Fat Albert character developed during his stand-up.
